From completing this task, i have understood how films have to attract an audience ans exactly how they do it without s actually knowing. For example, mise en scene can attract an audience although sometimes we don't actually recognise its their like the clothes they wear. It also allowed me to see what we did to attract our audience.
This is our first cut which we made, it doesn't have any sound or text as we made it to see what our final piece should sort of look like. In our first cut, we made some mistakes such as a lot of continuity mistakes which made the whole film look weird so we re filmed. We realised this when editing so we had to make time to re-film. One of our actors had a leg injury when we re filmed so we had to change things like the actors and their roles, as a result we had to re think our narrative to make it easier for our actor. This allowed us to think of how to make our sequence better and to improve upon our continuity mistakes. The first cut was an experiment on how to make the opening and to give us an indication of how exactly we were going to make.
To create a finished product, it took us many weeks of filming. This was because me and my partner weren't around on some days so we couldn't film and also the actors we needed had things like work so we had to find a reasonable amount of time and shoot everything in that time. The thing that went well about this was that we knew exactly what we'd filmed and we could re shoot if needed as we had a lot of time. However, there were drawbacks. Sometimes we weren't as organised as we should have been and we had to rush which would show up on the quality of our shots. Another drawback from this was that if we had found something wrong, we could only re film on a Wednesday so we had to wait to actuslly sort it out when we could have used that time to edit.
Second Cut
This is our second cut for our film, as you can see, there have been a lot of continuity issues which we have cleared up. However, in this sequence we did find some problems which would not have been in a real life film so we had to take them out. We didn't have any problems refilming as we only had to change the titles, and some other small details such as the non diegetic sounds.
From filming, editing and completing the film, i have learnt to build an opening sequence which would suit a genre. In our case it was coming of age. The task made us think about different types of films and then sub genres such as comedy, crime and horror which we could include in our sequence to add a narrative for a further film. I also learnt how to edit in a way that makes the sequence have a sense of suspense. I have also tried to include most filming techniques which we have learnt since the start of the year and i think we have executed them well.
